Before we get into the notes I just wanted to make a point of clarification as I would like to avoid miscommunication and information being taken out of context.
The notes below are my interpretation of what I hear at the meetings for the time I am present and they include matters which I think the public will want to be aware of.
These notes are not fully inclusive of all items on the agenda and are not verbatim notes. If you have questions or want clarification about anything I have noted I would definitely recommend reading the official agenda first provided below as well as reading the official meeting minutes when they are available.
My intent for these posts is to keep the community informed regarding what is happening in town as I know it can be difficult to attend meetings and read through all of the agenda’s and minutes.

Deputations
– Sarah Spears – seniors’ programming- Seniors Programming is starting in June, thanks to the town Liaison and Grand Valley resident Sarah Spears for coordinating and organizing. More details coming soon!

Public Question Period
-Laren Raan – cannabis stores- Letter on Page 15-Council made the decision last term to allow cannabis stores in town and beyond that they can’t control how many as long as they follow the bylaws and zoning. In terms of notification unless you live within 120 metres of the property that has a application/notice in front of planning you will not get notified.
-Jessica Deaken- Rural gravel Road Conditions-What are the solutions to the declining rural road conditions within East Luther Grand Valley. Roads are now at the point that they are not safe, the ones that have the new gravel on them are the worse so the current plan is not working. Council and Public Works employees said they are working on it, they acknowledged that is has gotten bad and are trying to play catch up as the roads have been neglected for a long time.

Z02-2023 (DOEKES) – Application for a Zoning By-law Amendment under Subsection 34(12) of the Planning Act. The purpose and effect of this application is to permit a reduced exterior side yard setback and to recognize the existing deficient front yard setback to accommodate an addition to the

9.1.1. Treasurer’s Report- Received, discussed and approved.
9.1.2. Monthly Procurement Report-Page 20 on agenda-Gravel Tender, Public works truck (3/4 ton) and water tower repairs.
9.1.3. By-law Enforcement Monthly Report- Page 22 on agenda, False Alarms reported.
9.1.4. Updated Report – Limited Parking Within/Surrounding Intersection of Main and Amaranth Street- Page 25 on agenda-Council Received and Approved.
Report – staff announcement- Page 30 on agenda, 2 new full time recreation employees have been hired-Mike Cote and Andrew DeGroot. Donna Tremblay is the successful candidate for the Deputy Clerk/Communications Coordinator, joining the staff mid June.
9.1.7. Report – Tax Policy review- Page 31 on Agenda-Council received.
CAO Update – verbal update
-Planters will be installed end of May early June, Banners have been installed
-Vehicle for hire by-law-joint muncipality intiative-recommendation report coming in June, ride sharing regulations etc..
-Telecommunications interoperability project-due to circumstances at the town of orangeville they were not able to apply for the grant funding therefore the project has been cancelled. Fire Chiefs are investigating alternatives.
-Town of Grand Valley has shared a health & safety rep with other municipalities-this has come to an end, County is reviewing and coming up with a new agreement.
-Webb Street Construction-Parking will be on the South side of Webb only an amendment needed
-Town of Grand Valley Office reconfiguration- most of the work is already done.
-Director of Public Works Vacancy will be posted this week.
Public Works
Verbal Update- Addressed trying to straighten out the gravel roads, waiting on deliveries, trying to get it to 3% grade.
-Sweeping done in town-feedback was mixed, there are some bad spots left, public works will try to address with their equipment. Councillor Latam questioned if we were over budget on this service, still waiting on final report for that.
-Issues with garbage cans overflowing on the main street, seems to be the residents living above the commercial spaces on the Main Street. Town staff will look into the issue.
