Just as the Grand River that winds through the town that is so much a part of the fabric that binds Grand Valley so is Marie’s Valley Inn Restaurant which has been a gathering spot for so many of the locals for years.
Marie’s Valley Inn Restaurant was operated by Marie Jordan and John Landman pictured above for over 30 years. Unfortunately, Marie passed away expectedly in June 2018 which was a tremendous loss not only to those that Marie considered family and friends but to the community as well. John still runs the restaurant today along with 9 local employees.
When I stopped to grab some pictures John was busy along with his staff preparing for the Friday night buffet. If you are in need of a good home-cooked meal with fresh baked goods to accompany at a very reasonable price you will not be disappointed!!! The menu for the Friday night buffet varies you can check the board out front of the restaurants for updates.
Depending on when you stop by you will either find John topping up customers coffees or in the kitchen. John is the chief baker at the restaurant and you are missing out if you haven’t had one of his sweet or savoury treats.
I asked Whitney who has worked at Marie’s for over 5 years now what the top items were on the menu and she had a long list:
Breakfast-You can’t beat the Hungry Man Breakfast with Bacon, Ham and sausage, 3 eggs and baked beans all for $11.75. The Farmers Sausage is a hot ticket item on the menu as well.
Lunch- Homemade Beef burgers and Poutine are popular choices as well as a Western sandwich or Chicken Cesar Wrap. Hand-battered Fish and Chips and Homemade Meatloaf also top the list.
Dessert- Daily specials and whatever pie, tart or pudding John has just taken out of the oven are always in demand!
Hours of operation are as follows:
Monday- Thursday-7am-3pm, Friday’s 7am-7pm, Saturday’s 7:30am-7pm and Sunday’s 8am-3pm.
Local tip-Come in early or be flexible with your timing on Sunday’s as the place is usually packed especially in the summer!
