Before we get into the notes I just wanted to make a point of clarification as I would like to avoid miscommunication and information being taken out of context.
The notes are what I perceive as highlights from the council meeting and are my interpretation of what I hear at the meetings and they include matters which I think the public will want to be aware of.
These notes are not fully inclusive of all items on the agenda and are not verbatim notes. If you have questions or want clarification about anything I have noted I would definitely recommend reading the official agenda first (link provided below) as well as reading the official meeting minutes when they are available. You can also watch the video recording of the council meeting to get the full context.
My intent for these posts is to keep the community informed regarding what is happening in town as I know it can be difficult to attend meetings/watch the recrodings and read through all of the agenda’s and minutes.

Amy’s Highlights of the Town Council Meeting
Deputations
-Raymond Trippear – Request for Variance of the Fence and Pool Enclosure By-Law 2020-31, as amended – 122 Leeson Street South (Page 17 on Agenda). Motion to approve request did not pass.
Public Questions
-Safety Concern Crossing Guard needed – Intersection Main St. and Amaranth St. – Taryn Lloyd- Page 14 on Agenda.
-Upper Grand District School Board – Walking Route Hazard Review and Transportation Reassessment – Grand Valley Public School – Kate Johnston- Page 15 on Agenda
Council discussed at length with differing opinions, the Mayor and CAO are sitting in a meeting with the Board to discuss. Council directed staff to respond to questions and let them know they are investigating options.
Staff Reports

-Filming Requests for 2026- Page 76 on Agenda, Grand Valley receives a few requests per year regarding filming. Some do not proceed while others have gone on to film around the Town. A film permit fee of $500 is suggested, along with other requirements based on the type of filming request. There is a film production inquiring currently with the town and local businesses about a potential film date in the fall. Council discussed and approves and amended that if the filming is concentrated in the downtown core a donation to the BIA is encouraged.
