Before we get into the notes I just wanted to make a point of clarification as I would like to avoid miscommunication and information being taken out of context.
The notes are what I perceive as highlights from the council meeting and are my interpretation of what I hear at the meetings and they include matters which I think the public will want to be aware of.
These notes are not fully inclusive of all items on the agenda and are not verbatim notes. If you have questions or want clarification about anything I have noted I would definitely recommend reading the official agenda first (link provided below) as well as reading the official meeting minutes when they are available. You can also watch the video recording of the council meeting to get the full context.
My intent for these posts is to keep the community informed regarding what is happening in town as I know it can be difficult to attend meetings/watch the recrodings and read through all of the agenda’s and minutes.

Amy’s Highlights of the Regular Town Council Meeting
Staff Reports
–North Shop Designer RFP-design a second shop facility at the Town’s North Public Works Yard. Page 4 on Agenda. Financial Implications-the 2025 budget includes funds to design the shop. Costs related to tendering and building would be included in 2026 deliberations before issuing a tender for construction. Council discussed and Council authorized staff to issue the RFP as discussed.
–Santa Claus Parade Committee-For over a decade, Violet Bromley has devoted countless hours to the Grand Valley Santa Claus Parade – as a committee member, then as Chair for 10 years. She has decided that it is time to retire from that role and turn over the annual event’s management to a new chair. She
provided her resignation and administration documents to the Mayor and CAO. She also sent
an email to the Committee to let them know that she has retired.
Council directs the CAO to ask the interested party to assume the role of Chair for the Santa Claus Parade Committee and to ask them to resume the work of the Committee in planning the annual parade and holiday events.
-Council Chambers Redesign– Page 9 on the agenda-In the 2025 budget, Council provided $60,000 toward upgrading the Council Chamber to improve the live streaming service and to improve the furnishings. Most of this fund is to be taken from the Administration reserve. Council approved and directed staff to
–Medical Dental Centre Exterior Renovation Project- Page 19 on the agenda. The Grand Valley Medical Dental Board asked RJ Burnside and Associates to review the condition of the Centre building, review the problems that were occurring with flooding into the lower level and bring back recommendations for dealing with these problems. The Board had planned to complete the work in 2024 but was unable to complete all aspects of the project in time. Council Received the report and council directs staff to proceed.
