Before we get into the notes I just wanted to make a point of clarification as I would like to avoid miscommunication and information being taken out of context.
The notes below are my interpretation of what I hear at the meetings for the time I am present and they include matters which I think the public will want to be aware of.
These notes are not fully inclusive of all items on the agenda and are not verbatim notes. If you have questions or want clarification about anything I have noted I would definitely recommend reading the official agenda first provided below as well as reading the official meeting minutes when they are available.
My intent for these posts is to keep the community informed regarding what is happening in town as I know it can be difficult to attend meetings and read through all of the agenda’s and minutes.

-National Human Trafficking Awareness Day – February 22, 2024-Town of Grand Valley Proclamation- Page 25 on the agenda.
Now Therefore, l, Mayor Steve Solomon, on behalf of Council, do hereby proclaim February 22, 2024, as “Human Trafficking Prevention Awareness Day” in the Town of Grand Valley.
Public Meeting
1) Application File Z07-2023 (related file 22T-202301) for a Zoning By-law Amendment. Submitted by GSP Group, Agent for the Applicant, Thomasfield Homes Ltd. and Ariss Glen Developments Limited for the property located at Part of Lot 31, Concession 3 – Urban Area. The purpose and effect of this
application is to permit a residential subdivision-Public Meeting Report PLN02-2024
-Presentation – Katherine McLaughlin, Manager, Land Development and Acquisition, Thomasfield Homes and Hugh Handy, GSP Group, Agent for the Applicant. Page 46 on the agenda– Packed House at the meeting. Public Comments Available March 15, 2024.
2) Special Public Meeting – Official Plan Review – Vision Grand Valley Project. Public Meeting pursuant to section 26(3) of the Planning Act. The purpose is to discuss the Official Plan Review and revisions that may be required to the Official Plan-Public Meeting Report PLN03-2024 Official Plan and Zoning ByLaw Update Project- Page 64 on agenda
-Virtual Presentation – David Welwood, Senior Planner, Alison Bucking, Planner and Marilyn Cameron, Planner, J.L. Richards and Associates Limited. Councilor Jonker asked about the public open house that is planned for July, Councillor Jonker pointed out that this is typically a vacation period for a lot of residents. Planners responded that the schedule might have to adjust based on public response and county deadlines.
-Correspondence – Ray Sheardown, asked about the settlement area boundary and if it will be expanded. Planners said it is under review however it is somewhat restrained due to the County Review/Plan.
Staff Reports
-Planning Report-Page 26 on the Agenda, I missed the part of the meeting where this was discussed.
-Public Works-Report – Public Works Update- Page 30 on the agenda– Deputy Mayor Rentsch asked about Street Cleaning and we have a new company contractor to do that this year. Councillor Jonker passed along that he has received positive responses from public about snow clearing this winter on sidewalks and that Melody portion of sidewalk is being cleared. Councillor Dart brought up the pot holes in the road on Rainey. Public Works Director said that they did apply cold patches.

Report – CAO Update- Page 32 on agenda– Rogers fibre to home project discussion- Deputy Mayor Rentsch brought up that there may be a lot more remediation than anticipated.
-Report – Approval Authority Delegation for Ontario Grants- PAge 36 on the agenda
-Report – Water Tower Restoration RFT – Council approval for funding- Page 39 on Agenda– Came in higher than originally estimated. Mobilization increased costs, Materials and inflation are pointed to for the higher quote than estimate. The hope is that if the tower has regular routine maintenance it should last for another 30 years. Received and approved tender for $1,111,750.00, ($186, 750k over budget)
-Mayberry Phase 3B Subdivision – R.J. Burnside Correspondence-Page 43 on agenda Council reviewed and approved.
