Before we get into the notes I just wanted to make a point of clarification as I would like to avoid miscommunication and information being taken out of context.
The notes are what I perceive as highlights from the council meeting and are my interpretation of what I hear at the meetings and they include matters which I think the public will want to be aware of.
These notes are not fully inclusive of all items on the agenda and are not verbatim notes. If you have questions or want clarification about anything I have noted I would definitely recommend reading the official agenda first (link provided below) as well as reading the official meeting minutes when they are available. You can also watch the video recording of the council meeting to get the full context.
My intent for these posts is to keep the community informed regarding what is happening in town as I know it can be difficult to attend meetings/watch the recrodings and read through all of the agenda’s and minutes.

Staff Reports
CAO/Clerk-Council Priorities for 2026-Page 49 on Agenda. 36:50 on video.Staff asked Council to review the list and direct as to priorities for 2026 on activities within the staffs portfolio, the rest will be deferred until the next term of council. Councillor Latam suggested items-7,10,17,19,30,33 be named as a priority. Councillor Dart suggested 4 & 34 should remain as priorities. Councillor Jonker suggested 34 remain a priority. Deputy Mayor Rentsch suggested #16 could be left off the list as no progress has been made on this on this term of council.
By-Law and Property Standards Enforcement-Page 64 on Agenda. 55:33 on Video. Report for the parking concerns for GV public School. Council discussed the report, council seemed to all agree that this is a concern and the hope is that the School board with respond to a request to meet to talk about this and come up with a solution however that has not happened yet. Council/Staff are limited to what they can do as they are only in control of the municipal roads. They discussed implementing the one side of the street parking on Spruyt in the summer so that parents had time to make alternative arrangements. The question did come up about why is this a big problem now as even back when the school had higher enrolment parking was not this much of an issue. It suggested that funding to busing has been cut so some routes have been removed and it was also suggested that less kids are walking to school now. The by-law officer stated that there seems to be confusion and frustration among parents about where to park so they can safely drop off and pick up their kids.

-Grand Valley and District Public Library – 2026 Grand Valley and District
Community Centre Fee Waiver Request-Page 84 on the agenda. 1:29 on Video. Grand Valley Public Library asked for a fee waiver for use of the 2nd level meeting room for the 2026 programs (march break, cooking classes etc..). Council discussed with Councillor Latam and Deputy Mayor Renstch opposed as they outlined that the request did not meet the requirements for the fee waiver policy as the programs have registration fees and registration limits. Councillor Jonker and Dart were in favour of waiving the fees as they felt that the programs were open to all and the registration limits were due to the venues capacity. Councillor Dart suggested approving this year and then giving the library notice for next year that it may not be approved. Council voted and it was passed to approve the fee waiver for the library.
