Before we get into the notes I just wanted to make a point of clarification as I would like to avoid miscommunication and information being taken out of context.
The notes below are my interpretation of what I hear at the meetings for the time I am present and they include matters which I think the public will want to be aware of.
These notes are not fully inclusive of all items on the agenda and are not verbatim notes. If you have questions or want clarification about anything I have noted I would definitely recommend reading the official agenda first provided below as well as reading the official meeting minutes when they are available.
My intent for these posts is to keep the community informed regarding what is happening in town as I know it can be difficult to attend meetings and read through all of the agenda’s and minutes.

Staff Reports
CAO/Clerk-Treasurer
-Report CAO/Clerk Update , 2024-004- Page 19 on Agenda
Deputy Mayor brought up setting a land use/needs assessment meeting. Council/Staff set a meeting for June 19th. Councillor Latam brought up a few items on agenda asking for timelines and updates.
-Report Updated 2023 Council Remuneration, 2024-005- Page 24 on Agenda– Council discussed and receives the report for information purposes and they direct staff to post on the website.
-Report Canine Control Contract, 2024-003- Page 30 on Agenda– Council discussed and Council approves the recommendation of a one-year contract extension with Agapi K9, directs the CAO to negotiate the extension and directs that the RFP for a new contract be issued in February 2025 as proposed.
-Report Automated Speed Enforcement Project Proposal, 2024-008- Page 41 on Agenda– Council receives the report. Staff are authorized to proceed, placement of the camera will be placed in the area with the highest occurence of speeding.
-Report Cenotaph Upgrade Project, 2024-006- Page 45 on Agenda-Council receives Report – Cenotaph Upgrade Project and directs staff to work with the lowest quote bidder to have the project completed this fall.
Public Works
-Report Public Works Update, 2024-009- Page 47 on Agenda– Grass cutting contractor has been in town twice so far and in house grass cutting has started. Line Painting-This year for a traffic calming measure there will be a solid 30cm. wide yellow line down the centre of Main and Water instead of the traditional solid double line.
-Councilor Latam asked about an update regarding speed humps that were approved by council. Public Works Director is still preparing information to submit to town engineers. Council approved that the logistics and costing report for this project be presented at the next meeting.
Planner
-Planning Update Report, 2024-007- Page 49 on Agenda– Hillside Drive Public Meeting notices have been sent out. Official Plan project update, finalizing background report, should be brought to council at the next meeting.
Parks and Recreation
-Recreation Facilities Update- Page 53 on Agenda-Concession 2/3 park update, Council discussed delay in plans and drainage issues. Council directs staff to finalize plans for the pavilion and bring it forward to council by Sept 2024.
-Programmer and Facility Operator position proposal- Page 59 on Agenda-Recreation Manager brought forward hiring another staff member in the recreation department. Council Discussed, some councillors seemed in favour others brought up concerns about costs and what their duties would be. Council directed staff to revise the job description to favour programming and parks/rec over arena facility operator and bring it back to council to review.
