Before we get into the notes I just wanted to make a point of clarification as I would like to avoid miscommunication and information being taken out of context.
The notes below are my interpretation of what I hear at the meetings for the time I am present and they include matters which I think the public will want to be aware of.
These notes are not fully inclusive of all items on the agenda and are not verbatim notes. If you have questions or want clarification about anything I have noted I would definitely recommend reading the official agenda first provided below as well as reading the official meeting minutes when they are available.
My intent for these posts is to keep the community informed regarding what is happening in town as I know it can be difficult to attend meetings and read through all of the agenda’s and minutes.

Announcements
-Grand River Watershed-Wide Wastewater Optimization Program Gold Recognition Level – Grand Valley Wastewater Treatment Facility- I missed this part of the meeting.
Deputations
-Jan Oorebeek, Director, Youth Unlimited, YFC Grand Valley-Youth Unlimited, YFC Grand Valley Report dated November 8, 2023- Page 27 on agenda
–Trudy Williams, Grand Valley Farmer’s Market-Presentation Outline, Presentation,Grand Valley Farmer’s Market Financial Statements Page 29 on agenda-Council Discussed-Deputy Mayor asked how Public Works felt about their role in the market (closing down the street)-Public Works Director just noted the last market vendors were trying to leave and one was stopping traffic to get the vehicle out after William Street was opened and it caused a potential issue with thru traffic.
Councillor Latam suggested EDC would be better avenue to request donation. Felt William St may not need to be closed after all, also he brought up possibly changing gravel lot to grass. Deputy Mayor said that he is more in favour of an in kind donation (help with public works opening up the road), he is not inclined to give a financial donation to an initiative that made a profit. Councillor Dart asked if frequency would be increased. The Mayor offered his support for the market, and acknoelwedged that he thought it went very well. Council received the report and moved for the location to be approved (the committee will work with Public works and council to come up with an agreeable plan for street closure), Coucil also approved $1000 donation through EDC Councillors Jonker, Latam & Dart approved so it was passed.
-Santa Claus Parade- Violet thanked Council for their collaboration for a successful Santa Claus Parade.
Unfinished Business
-County of Dufferin Special Council Meeting – Verbal Discussion, Motion Moved by Councillor Rentsch, Seconded by Councillor Soloman. BE IT RESOLVED THAT Council hold a special meting in January 2024 to discuss the roles and responsibilities of local and upper tier levels of government, identify areas of duplication, and propose ideas to streamline and simplify service delivery. Council discussed.
Public Q&A
Kevin representative from the Air Cadets spoke to council regarding issues over the use of 23 Mill Street West. Air Cadets have an agreement to use the space from the Youth Unlimited/YFC. Council Discussed and put forward a motion for staff to review the agreement and bring options to council.

-Report – Update on Costs of Receiving Credit Cards as Payment Options- Page 56 on agenda– staff to investigate 2% surcharge on credit cards to cover credit card costs.

Public Works Director
Report –Sideroad 24/25 Snow Drifting Issue- Page 60 on agenda– Council discussed, Deputy Mayor questioned whether the cedar hedges are on the municipal right of way and if so then if this becomes a bigger issue then removal of the hedges might be the option to consider. Councillor Latam asked about the location of the mailboxes. Council recieves the report and directs the Director of Public Works to monitor the condition of the road and the maintenance and report back to council if this is becoming a bigger issue.
