Before we get into the notes I just wanted to make a point of clarification as I would like to avoid miscommunication and information being taken out of context.
The notes are what I perceive as highlights from the council meeting and are my interpretation of what I hear at the meetings and they include matters which I think the public will want to be aware of.
These notes are not fully inclusive of all items on the agenda and are not verbatim notes. If you have questions or want clarification about anything I have noted I would definitely recommend reading the official agenda first (link provided below) as well as reading the official meeting minutes when they are available. You can also watch the video recording of the council meeting to get the full context.
My intent for these posts is to keep the community informed regarding what is happening in town as I know it can be difficult to attend meetings/watch the recrodings and read through all of the agenda’s and minutes.

Amy’s Highlights of the Special Town Council Meeting
-Proposed Official Plan Amendment No. 8 and Zoning By-law Update – Vision Grand Valley Project- Page 4 on Agenda– Council discussed points with the Consultants and Town Staff including a tree by-law, traffic calming measures and parking.
-Temporary Reduction of Development Charges- Page 264 on Agenda
Developers that presented to Council:Tom McLaughlin, Katherine McLaughlin and Matthew Krizsan,Thomasfield Homes, Willem Wildeboer, Sheldon Creek Developments, Rob Lavecchia, KLM Planning
After the presentation Councillor Dart spoke and said he would not be in support of a temporary reduction in development charges, Deputy Mayor Rentsch said that he would not be in support, he did mention that he would be in support of council reviewing the current development charges but that process would not be immediate. Councillor Jonker and Latam talked about alternative sources of funding and discussed options with town staff. Council took a recess and then came back and Mayor Soloman read a motion proposed By Councillors Latam and Jonker (2:37)that council passes a resolution directing to town staff to look into development charges however council did not approve the reduction due to not having alternative funding….this was a lengthy motion so if you would like specific wording please refer to the video link above. Councillors then discussed in open session the wording of the motion and talked with staff. Mayor Soloman then asked for a vote on the motion, the only opposed was Deputy Mayor Renstch.
