Before we get into the notes I just wanted to make a point of clarification as I would like to avoid miscommunication and information being taken out of context.
The notes are what I perceive as highlights from the council meeting and are my interpretation of what I hear at the meetings and they include matters which I think the public will want to be aware of.
These notes are not fully inclusive of all items on the agenda and are not verbatim notes. If you have questions or want clarification about anything I have noted I would definitely recommend reading the official agenda first (link provided below) as well as reading the official meeting minutes when they are available. You can also watch the video recording of the council meeting to get the full context.
My intent for these posts is to keep the community informed regarding what is happening in town as I know it can be difficult to attend meetings/watch the recrodings and read through all of the agenda’s and minutes.

-Development Charges Reduction Request – Mathew Krizsan and Tom McLaughlin, Thomasfield Homes Inc. Page 17 on Agenda– excerpt from staff report-“Depending on Council’s direction regarding the application of the 40% reduction to Development Charges over a two-year period, Development Charges revenues could be lower by an estimated amount of between $985k to $1.836M. Unless the Town can find an alternate funding source, a reduction in Development Charges revenue will mean the Town will have less money to fund infrastructure and services for new development, potentially leading to higher property taxes, increased pressure on existing residents and businesses, and difficulties financing growth related projects for the community. Another excerpt “A reduction in DCs will result in a funding gap for growth infrastructure requiring the Town to cover these costs through other means. The most direct alternative to DC revenue is increasing property taxes or utility rates, which affects all residents and businesses, not just those benefiting from growth. The burden for financing growth-related infrastructure will fall on existing taxpayers and property owners.
Council discussed briefly and accepted a motion to defer the decision.

Grand Valley Lions Club – Request for Approval to Install a Friendship Arch – Grand Valley Lions 75 Anniversary- Page 51 on Agenda-Council discussed and received the request and directs staff to work with the lions club to find a location.
