Before we get into the notes I just wanted to make a point of clarification as I would like to avoid miscommunication and information being taken out of context.
The notes are what I perceive as highlights from the council meeting and are my interpretation of what I hear at the meetings and they include matters which I think the public will want to be aware of.
These notes are not fully inclusive of all items on the agenda and are not verbatim notes. If you have questions or want clarification about anything I have noted I would definitely recommend reading the official agenda first (link provided below) as well as reading the official meeting minutes when they are available. You can also watch the video recording of the council meeting to get the full context.
My intent for these posts is to keep the community informed regarding what is happening in town as I know it can be difficult to attend meetings/watch the recrodings and read through all of the agenda’s and minutes.

Amy’s Highlights of the Regular Town Council Meeting
Deputations
-Dufferin Food Share – Year End Update-Presentation – Heather Hayes, Executive Director – Dufferin
Food Share, Grand Valley Food Bank- Page 23 on Agenda.
The Foodbank has a 5 year Lease for the old school house and they pay approximately $60k in rent. The food bank asked council to consider a financial contribution to offset our property taxes for 27 Main St N of $8,000.00. Council agreed to add the item to the discussions for the 2026 Budget.
-Jim Irvine – Traffic Concerns – Intersection County Road 109 and 25 and Maintenance Concerns Taylor Drive Containment Pond- Page 33 on Agenda. Excerpt from letter-“I would like council to contact the County of Dufferin to consider putting in an advance Green turning light left into Grand Valley. Secondly, I feel the speed limit should be lowered from 80 to 60 km through this zone before a serious accident occurs. Council receives the request and requests staff to reach out to County of Dufferin to request the changes to that intersection.
The other concern was regarding the containment pond on Taylor. The grass around the pond has been cut for the pond itself has not been maintained. Council receives the request.
Staff Reports
-Update – Future of the Greta and Titch Boswell Memorial Lions Ball Diamond- Page 80 on the agenda
Recommendation THAT Council receives the report ‘Update Future of Greta and Titch Boswell Memorial Lions Ball Diamond’. Council discussed and further that Council directs staff to include an amount for revitalization of the clay at the Boswell Diamond in the 2026 Budget. Members of Public were in attendance and clapped at the end of this discussion with the decision to keep the Boswell Diamond.

Request for Development Charge Reduction- Page 34 on Agenda– Council directs staff to investigate reducing development charges over the next 2 years. Councillor Dart and Deputy Mayor Rentsch voted against this motion as they indicated that they don’t think Development charges should be reduced at the moment. Councillor Latam, Jonker and Mayor Soloman voted in favour. Motion carried.
Automated Speed Enforcement Update- Page 39 on Agenda– August saw the highest amount of tickets issued since its installation in March.
