Before we get into the notes I just wanted to make a point of clarification as I would like to avoid miscommunication and information being taken out of context.
The notes are what I perceive as highlights from the council meeting and are my interpretation of what I hear at the meetings and they include matters which I think the public will want to be aware of.
These notes are not fully inclusive of all items on the agenda and are not verbatim notes. If you have questions or want clarification about anything I have noted I would definitely recommend reading the official agenda first (link provided below) as well as reading the official meeting minutes when they are available. You can also watch the video recording of the council meeting to get the full context.
My intent for these posts is to keep the community informed regarding what is happening in town as I know it can be difficult to attend meetings/watch the recrodings and read through all of the agenda’s and minutes.

Amy’s Highlights of the Regular Town Council Meeting
Presentation – Teri Overton, Ministry Operations Manager, Youth Unlimited YFC Highlands- Page 25 on Agenda– Council Received the report and directed staff to prepare a new lease before the existing one expires. Council also received correspondence from the cadets for help with paying for a new floor at 23 Mill street, Council approved funding to put toward the cost of the flooring for a total amount of $1300.
Question- Kim and Dale Braiden – Request for Speed Bump – Cemetery Entrance -Cooper Street Page 28 on Agenda. Council received the request and directed Public Works staff to talk with the property owners to get more information on their concerns.
Correspondence –Thomasfield Homes Ltd. – Signage Request at Melody Lane and Water Streets- Page 152. Thomasfield had a sign in that spot originally for the initial sign that was installed when Phase 1 of their development was built. The town had them remove it ( I believe last year) as it was on public property. Thomasfield asked council to put the sign back up, Council approved the request until Sept 30th, 2027 (Councillor Latam was the only objection due to the fact that it is on public town land and it sets a precedent).
Staff Reports- Co-op Student has joined the town-We are pleased to announce that Connor Smith has joined the Town for a co-op intern placement. Connor is an Accounting student at Sheridan College and he has just completed his second year. He will be assisting with Asset Management data collection, the 2025 Asset Management Plan update and working with the Finance Team on various accounting tasks.
Planning-Request to the Town to Assume a Private Road – Sparrow Crescent- Page 100 on the Agenda. Planner & the town engineer did not recommend council approve assuming the road. Council received the request and denied it.
