Before we get into the notes I just wanted to make a point of clarification as I would like to avoid miscommunication and information being taken out of context.
The notes are what I perceive as highlights from the council meeting and are my interpretation of what I hear at the meetings and they include matters which I think the public will want to be aware of.
These notes are not fully inclusive of all items on the agenda and are not verbatim notes. If you have questions or want clarification about anything I have noted I would definitely recommend reading the official agenda first (link provided below) as well as reading the official meeting minutes when they are available. You can also watch the video recording of the council meeting to get the full context.
My intent for these posts is to keep the community informed regarding what is happening in town as I know it can be difficult to attend meetings/watch the recrodings and read through all of the agenda’s and minutes.

Amy’s Highlights of the Town Council Meeting
Deputations
-Town of Grand Valley 2025 Annual Water Reporting-Presentation – Joe Miedema, P.Eng. General Manager, Dufferin Water Company Limited- Page 29 on agenda. Some wells
-Presentation – Arunas Kalinauskas, Business Manager, Asset Management/GIS, RJ Burnside and Associates Ltd. Page 43 on Agenda. Mr. Kalinauskas said comparatively our numbers are more manageable than other municipalities.
-242 Water Street Lease Termination- Page 166 on agenda-Council agrees to the request from the Tenant for an extension of time to vacate the property to August 31, 2026. The Tenants will be removing the building before the end of their lease. Fertilizer was stored in that building so council did discuss contamination os the site could be a possibility.
-By-Law and Property Standards Enforcement-Page 169 on Agenda– Councillor Jonker asked what the status is regarding an adjustment for extending the time limit for handicap parking in town, this has not been addressed as of this date/time. School Parking Issue Update-Letter still be sent to the school board from Council/Town staff, in the interim the by-law officer is continuing ongoing patrols and has noticed an improvement. Complaint regarding birdfeeders on a property in Mayberry Hill, an order to comply was intiated.
-Recreation Update March 2026-Page 173 on Agenda-Grand Opening for the Community Centre was well attended. Drop in Volleyball has been extended. Council asked whatever programs are planned and the Recreation Manager said it is based on requests from the community regarding which programs they try to implement.
-Final 2026 Operating and Capital Budget-Page 176 on Agenda-Council discussed and added in an amount for repairing sidewalks on King St that wasn’t previously in the budget as well as $ into the reserve fund. Council approved the budget with a 7.004% increase.
-Council Remuneration Review- Page 297 on Agenda– The base pay rates for Deputy Mayor and Councillors are below the 50th percentile of the defined comparable subset. Recommendations for percentage increase, to realize Council compensation at the 50th percentile amongst the subset comparators are provided in Table 5.
*Note as the Mayor’s base rate is above the Comparable Median, there is no recommended
change or percentage increase for this position
Council discussed and a motion was put forward-council approved policy and passed the following increases in renumeration for the 2026-2030 council.
Mayor- 0.0% $ 20,040.83
Deputy Mayor-2.2% $ 16,391.33
Councillors- 4.1% $ 15,649.30
